Task 1 Adverts
By CallumMartin
Sainsbury’s Christmas Advert 2015:
Structure: This advert is based around Christmas back in 1914 during the first World War, this is a very touching video that wants to get an emotional response from the audience.
Style: The advert was shot using short shots to gradually build the atmosphere of the reunion.
Technique: The advert uses shots of two armies together on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The response you will get from the audience would be warming and comfortable as they watch them join together. This symbolises that people should come together at Christmas and do this by buying products from Sainsbury’s for Christmas dinner etc. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWF2JBb1bvM)
John Lewis Advert 2015: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuz2ILq4UeA)
Structure: The advert was presented using two different viewpoints, one being the old man and the other one the little girl.
Style: This advert is about a man alone on the moon feeling unloved. This little girl looking through a telescope at home and tries to get his attention and he doesn’t see, so she tries to fly a present upto him and eventually she does.
Technique: The motto of the advert was “make someone feel loved this Christmas”. The advert worked very well with it, this has been done so John Lewis’s sales will increase as more people will buy more so they can make someone feel loved. They also try and get an emotional response out of the audience, the response is that want to be loved feeling. This is mirrored by the shots with the girl which were done in full bright colours, whereas the man on the moon was shot with muted blue filters, to create soulful ambience. The colourful balloons were sent up to the man to show the audience the happiness the girl had given him.
Asda Christmas Advert: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eapu0RtW54E)
Structure: This advert shows the highlights of Christmas, like dressing up, parties and having good food.
Style: This is done it can highlight all of the things you can buy from Asda, this is likely to increase Asda’s sales.
Technique: In the advert they used close ups and mid-ranged shots of happy employees. They used upbeat music in the background to keep the audience more focused on the video.
Part 2
How Adverts Are Planned
Adverts are planned by storyboarding, like a story or a film. They will also have to choose a target audience and a defining message to that audience. This is done by getting the plot drawn up and scripted, then when its fully planned out they scout locations and a cast. (http://www.wikihow.com/Write-a-Basic-Advertising-Plan)
How Adverts Are Regulated
Advertising regulations refers to the laws and rules in which products can be advertised in different regions. Rules can define a wide number of different aspects, such as placement, timing, and content. In the United States, false advertising and health-related ads are regulated the most. Two of the most highly regulated forms of advertising are tobacco and alcohol, this is done so they don’t encourage children to go out and buy them. How Adverts Are Tested
Advertising testing is done to measure the success the of the advert before it is released to the public. It can include pre-testing to validate and estimate the potential impact of the advert before it goes live. You can also test and control areas to measure advertising effectiveness and to show how the adverts or commercials affect potential customer’s perception of the brand. Another way is to use face to face interviews with people that have seen the advert and then ask for their opinions on it.
The company also would have to play the advert to focus groups to make sure it would be acceptable, this then making it ethically right.

How Sold
Adverts are sold by how long and what time adverts are on for example if you have a advert that lasts for 30 seconds at 5:00 pm, it will be more expensive than a advert that is on at 2:00 am. This is because more people see the advert meaning more people are likely to buy their product compared to other products. Adverts become more expensive the longer it is on air.
1. INT. CLASS ROOM. DAY.
The opening scene starts off in a brightly lit corridor; in this area we will meet the main character at the start holding a can of Red Bull he storms in past a small line of students. As he comes in late he does not have much time to drink it he so he downs most the can of Red Bull. And then he walks into the hall.
2. INT. CLUB. NIGHT
The Room is transformed into a club. There is lots of coloured lights and loud music with lots of people dancing. There is a desk up against the green screen wall side of the room with DJ decks and a can of Redbull on it.
The main character walks up to desk in the club and the crowd cheers loudly. The actor puts some headphones on and starts moving things on the decks. They then take a sip of Redbull and the starts to fade out. In the edit it fades back to the character in their exam.
3. INT. MUSIC STUDIO. DAY.
After all of this you see the can of Red Bull in a pack shot and the caption is played “Red Bull it’s infectious”.
